iganu is a Swazi word for marula, the symbol of the lodge. This fragrant golden yellow fruit is a close cousin of the cashew, mango and pistachio, all favourites of our regular guests.
iganu is a malaria-free lodge, a place to indulge in nature’s therapy. Fall in love with the smells and sounds of the bush, fawn over the long eye lashes of giraffes, admire the elegance of the eland, Africa’s largest antelope, and be captivated by the beauty of the sable bull.
For most, the star attraction is sunbathing at the swimming pool with a book and a beer or a summer cocktail. For others, walking in the bush, taking in the fresh air and stumbling upon warthogs and tortoises holds attraction.
A favourite is a game drive at sunset enjoying the textures of cumulus clouds and orange skies. For the energetic, an early morning drive, after coffee and rusks, offers the joy of the rising sun over the nearby hills that border Botswana.
Supper is always a convivial occasion. Sip on a pre dinner gin and tonic at the bar followed by a sumptuous African feast cooked on an outdoor fire. iganu is well known for homegrown organic meat, fire-cooked bread and farm recipes. Just ask our regular guests from South Africa, United Kingdom, Australia, Zambia, United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong.
Designed by local craftsmen, iganu, the place of the marula tree, is perched in an indigenous garden under blue skies with year-round sunshine, exquisite butterflies, yellow hornbills and antelope roaming freely in a predator-free environment.
iganu is a short drive away from the one horse town of Marken and four hours from Johannesburg. A part of the Waterberg biosphere in Limpopo, the lodge is cosy, sleeping 10 in well crafted thatched huts and eight in professionally attired tented camps.
Privacy, exclusivity and personal service with friends and family is guaranteed if guests book the entire lodge.
